New Delhi: In a significant step, Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Asif
Ibrahim has formally lodged a complaint against CBI in the Home
Ministry, over the “witch-hunt” against its officials by the
investigative agency in the Ishrat Jahan case. In his complaint, Ibrahim
said that the CBI move is “disastrous for the morale of IB officers”
and would harm the country’s internal security.
Ibrahim’s letter to former home secretary RK Singh, putting on record his disapproval of the CBI investigation into the alleged encounter killing, came after CBI stuck to its stand in the June 13 meeting where the chiefs of the two central agencies discussed the issue of with the home secretary. The discussion was on the alleged involvement of IB special director Rajendra Kuamr in the killing
Singh had reportedly advised Ibrahim to put his objections on record in a letter rather than just as a verbal complaint.
CBI has mentioned the names of four senior IB officers in its chargesheet filed on Wednesday, without making them accused yet. But the investigative agency has promised to file a supplementary charge sheet, in which it is likely to make them “accused”.
